Report: Akkuyu Nuclear may sell 49% in Akkuyu plant project
ANKARA, Apr 27 (PRIME) -- Akkuyu Nuclear, a project company established for construction of a U.S. $20 billion Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Turkey and controlled by affiliates of Russian nuclear power corporation Rosatom, plans to sell 49% in the plant due to Russian economic problems, Turkish news agency Anadolu reported Wednesday citing a company source.
Akkuyu Nuclear declined to comment.
Anadolu reported that Cengiz Insaat company is interested in the stake, but the company did not confirm the information.
According to a Russia–Turkey agreement, 51% in the project must be owned by Russian investors, while 49% may be sold to foreign investors or international banks. The idea of selling the 49% stake was previously studied as an option to raise money for the project.
Russia and Turkey signed the agreement on construction of the plant in 2010. The project includes construction of four 1,200-megawatt VVER reactors.
